BobGoemans
BobGoemans formermanagingdirector of Parigo
Horticultural Co Ltdhas died at the age 75. He joined
the company in the early 1960s after leaving university
and followed inhis father’s footsteps breeding new
Freesias atMillfieldNursery inSpalding. This included
BlueMoonwhichwas one of a long line of successful
Parigo varietiesmarketed throughout theworld.With
these varieties hewas able to expand cut flower
productionon the nursery to supply topquality flowers
to the supermarket. Bobwaswell known inGuernsey
were he exhibited annually at the Flower Show.
The companywere alsoproducing new varieties of
Alstroemerias andhe had the foresight to see the value
of new tissue culture techniques and set up a high-tech
laboratory formicropropagation and research and
development of the crop. Bobwas an activemember of
theSouthHollandGrowersAssociation and formany
years aboardmember of HDC.

newDefraSecretary of State,Michael Gove, urging
government to support British farming in a number
of ways.Mr Raymond toldMr Gove: “Farming is of
enormous value to the economy - for every £1 invested,
farmingdelivers around £7back to this country. British
farmers areproud toprovide over 60%of the nation’s
food andmanage 70%of UK landscape.Wedo this all
while focusingonproducing safe, nutritious and high-
quality food for people at home and abroad. “Andwe

within theGovernment and towork closelywith the
devolvedgovernments across theUK. Our shared aim
is to ensure aproductive, progressive andprofitable
future for British farmers and assurance toBritish
consumers.”He added that “to achieve our potential,
we need a futurepost-Brexit trade arrangement that
delivers thebest possible access to the vital EUmarket,
aswell as continued access to a competent and
reliableworkforce.With your experience in reforming
policy environmentswe look forward toworkingwith
you to create a newwider policy framework that better
delivers for British food and farming - and for
our nation.”
