features of Selecta-one’s newdahliaDalayaAmba, andof
the newTumbao in their vigorous aonal pelargoniumXXL

Hydrangeas areplantswithprofiles greatly raised in
many countries during the last few years. Germany is no

And to turn toGerman exhibitors of plants for which the
midwinter timingof IPMEssen could hardly bebetter,
Heuger is celebrated for hellebores andEbbingLohaus
for primroses andpolyanthus. Breeders of poinsettias
are likewise favouredby thedates of IPM. Therewere
plenty of them to see on the stands of rivalsDummen
Orange andSelecta-one. The keenest competition is
in reds, andhereSelecta-onewas showing its new
ChristmasSensation. This is distinguishedby its early
bract colouring coupledwith late-ripening cyathia, a
positive feature for lengthof life inprime condition in the
consumer’s home.
Cyclamen specialists also find late 1anuary quite a
friendly time for theproductionof samples to stage for
publiciaing. On the standof French specialistsMorel
Diffusion, their new Indiaka series took pride of place see
lastmonth’sCommercial GreenhouseGrower for details .
The name has beenborrowed from a traditional French
racket gameplayedwith a shuttlecock. Toboost the
publicity for Indiaka at its public launch, the game itself
was playedmany times during the four days of the show
on an area right by theMorel stand.
Many plant exhibitors at IPMwere challenged rather
thanhelpedby the timingof the event. Old hands had
experience on their side in the challenge of needing
topresent summer-Åoweringplants of showquality in
mid-winter. This couldbe seenon the standof Elsner
PAC, world famous as apelargoniumbreeder. Another
renownedGermanbusiness is the youngplant supplier
Kientaler, again showing a verywide-rangingdisplay that
