since then, the TagWeldmachines havebecome very
popular throughout Europe. Catherine explains that
retailers like the neat, uniform and securepresentation
and adds: ¸The automated label-to-pot weldingprocess
is a fast and efficient way to secure the label to thepot.
This year we have had renewed interest inTagWeld from
growers in theUKdue to the concerns about labour
shortages and increased labour costs, with tens of
millions of labels still insertedby hand it is anobvious
areawhere the automatedTagWeld label application can
achieve amajor labour saving for growers.¹
Thinking green
Catherine notes that once theplant is planted the Tag
Weldpolypropylene label andpot canbe recycled
together. In fact, at a timewhen industries are striving
towards a circular economy, growers and retailers can
expect their labels tobemade from recycledor recyclable
materials. Hortipak’sPhilip says: ¸Themajority of
Hortipak’s labels and handles areproducedon recyclable
polypropylene.Wework closelywithour retail andgrower
customers to ensureweprovide thequality product
consumers require.¹
Floramedia’sMarjet says: ¸At Floramediawe are
always looking for newmaterials toprint our products
on. Besides the right look and feel, sustainability is an
important factor when considering a newmaterial. We
follow the sustainabledevelopments in themarket closely
andhavebeen researching and testing the use of these
materials for years.¹ She notes that the firm’smaterials
include the recyclable FloramediaS250, which is a firm
material predominantlymade out of stone. ¸We use this
material tomake hang and fold labels, and especially our
bannertags small label books ofmostly eight pageswhich
can contain extra information .¹ She adds that Floramedia
ECO35 is abio-based, water-resistant plasticproduced
from100per cent renewable sourceswhilst Floramedia’s
¸super sustainable¹Grassboard – one of the firm’s newest
materials – ismade from 50per cent wastepapermixed
with 50per cent grasswaste. ¸Thismix results in a sturdy,
quality cardboard,¹ she says.
Certainly, growers can havepeace ofmind knowing that
there are a great number ofmaterials to choose from – as
well asmany different suppliers and styles.
