Dutch firmSercomRegeltechniek reckons to have
made another important step in the further development
of automatic climate control and storagewith its
Wireless Xtender. Optimising the concept of wireless
communicationbetween a central climate computer
and its sub-stations, the new two-way systemmakes it
possible to communicatebetween themain computer
and amaximumof 16 sub-stations, over adistance of
up to 5km. The company says this offers thepossibility
to control several locations from a central office and
facilitates the option to expandproduction areaswithout
the needof expensive and time-consumingwiring.
Extensively testedduring thepast year at various
locations and applicationswithin theNetherlands
and abroad, Sercom is now confident to release it
commercially.
It is still without a name, but Degramec’s latestmachine
takes cuttings from crops such as rhododendrons and
camellia. Runningon apair of rubber tracks, the first
machine at IPMhas aworkingwidthof 3m, but narrower
andwider versions are available.
Designed towork both indoors andoutside, the
electrically-poweredmachine is operated remotely.
Cuttings are teasedonto the conveyor belt by a reel, after
which they are stored in a hopper. The goal is to have
enough storage capacity to empty the cuttings at the
endof a run. As a roughguide, themachine at IPM costs
aroundÁ30,000.
Italian firmDaRos brought theprototype of its latest
seedingmachine to theGerman show. Provisionally
known asDea – the initials of the company boss’ two
sons - the high capacitymachine is designed to handle
up to 1,200 trays an hour. A feature is thepossibility to
control thedepthof thedibbler holes to suit different seed
siaes. The first deliveries of the newmachine are expected
by themiddle of this year.
Previewed at theVisser Horti Systems 50th anniversary
last summer, and initially launched inNorthAmerica, IPM
saw theEuropean launchof theAutoStix. Automating the
process of the stickingof cuttings, this is the first time the
company has amachine like this.
Developedwithone of theworld’s largest cuttings
producers, theAutoStix is basedon the newly-developed
